So I had a client who created murder mystery games in San Francisco.
He wanted 2 things:
- An app to let users try and solve murder mysteries in person
- An app to build custom murder mysteries
These are two complicated ideas.
Solving Murder Mysteries
I personally started with just a horizontal slice of functionality by having you look for clues in the murder mystery with an AR based app.
Originally the app was thought to be 2D but later changed to 3D.

So that section was paid for 💵
I did think about how to change clues based on user roles etc, though it wasn’t implemented. A Jackbox style of login was how I thought it could be setup.
Building Murder Mysterious
While funding did not continue I did do research before we got too far on ways we could scale this and create the ability to work on building murder mysterious.
I created a tool that would allow you to upload some assets unto a server, though that’s as far as I got. I created UI for it, but since it wasn’t funded the work ended 😅. But I enjoyed working on it anyway as I like creating UI so I made mock-ups for the tool.
There could be a way to load in assets from the server into a room builder so you could layout clues in particular areas.
While this didn’t move forward it was fun to see what I could do, and I enjoyed working on it. I learned about different ways to upload to different types of servers and worked with Amazon the most surprisingly. I worked with another programmer to help me build a viewer for assets that were uploaded and online so that part wasn’t too complicated. There are a few assets you can mod to make this easier.
